Kitchen renovations can be one of the biggest remodels to your home. It can take a lot of lead work preparing for the project and a lot of work during the project. Choosing a good home improvement contractor can take some of the headaches out of the process. You usually only have one kitchen in your home, so you want your remodel to go as quickly and smoothly as possible.
A great kitchen remodel requires working with the greatest specialists in the field. You always want experienced and established businesses working in your home.
A great kitchen remodel starts with:
A reputable contractor
A great 3-D design of your future kitchen
Choice of a good quality kitchen cabinet
Sub contractors that are experienced and reputable
Everything in place before you start
With your kitchen gutted, now is the time to upgrade everything you do not see behind the wall. Might as well bring it up to code and icrease efficiency while the walls are open.
Changes made while walls were open in this WMB Construction kitchen renovation picture:
Solid nailers were installed so that every cabinet has a solid attachment
Electric was upgraded and extra circuits added for appliances
Plumbing was upgraded and new chrome right angle supply valves were installed.
New fiberglass insulation installed up to new industry standards
The kitchen is the heart of your home and living without one is very hard. You need to set up a schedule with your contractor to ensure they will be in and out as quickly as possible. Most kitchen renovations take 2-3 weeks to perform, but I have seen other contractors take months. Add eating out a lot to your estimate if you choose a contractor with the best price.
When choosing a qualified contractor, question:
In depth contract
If he uses sub contractors, a list of who they will be using
Years in business
Who will be working in your home
Is the person you hire an owner/operator
Your kitchen can be whatever you dream, it can be just that. It is the main focal point of your home so make it the best room of your house. The money you spend today will give you a lifetime of appreciation!!!
A kitchen renovation gains:
Increased value to your home
Electrical updated to current codes
Plumbing updated to ensure no future water damage
Family and friends to visit without embarrasement of an old kitchen

Kitchens and bathrooms are the biggest assets of your home. These are the rooms you will frequent everyday, so make them the best. This photo explains a kitchen that is well outdated and in need of a remodel.
A kitchen we started with in Monroe, NY that was in desperate need of complete remodel. A simple kitchen remodel easily added $50k to the value of the home. The total cost of the kitchen remodel was around $25k, a $25k gain in the longrun.
Notice after the kitchen has been gutted, the nailers that have been installed in the walls for a solid cabinet placement. This is crucial when performing a new kitchen remodel to ensure the integrity of your cabinet installation.
Your kitchen can make any transformation you want. Walls can be removed and and cabinet configuration can easily be changed. Let us remodel your next kitchen remodel!

The backsplash of your kitchen can take quite a beating from water, grease and grime. Your backsplash wall with a little paint applied over the sheetrock surface is not enough protection from these elements. Soon the paint and sheetrock will deteriorate leaving more of a problem. If you have a formica countertop that isn't caulked correctly, you can risk damage to the countertop due to water penetration.
Besides just protection, tile backsplashes add elegance and beauty to your kitchen. With so many decorating options available for your kitchen, a backsplash will have the most impact. From natural stone, to ceramic tile, to different borders; the ideas start to become endless.
In this photo we installed a natural stone tile. You can quickly see the difference it made to this kitchen. Because natural stone is porous, Bright Seal was applied to the tile to seal and protect. The sealer also enhances the natural beauty of the tile.
The tile installed even made the beauty of the faucet stand out. This countertop came unequipped without any attached backsplash. The customer almost lost the countertop due to water penetrating and delaminating the formica. We saved the countertop just in time by adding the tile backsplash and sealing off all voids where water could penetrate.
In this photo we installed ceramic subway tile with a natural stone border. The countertop in this photo is equipped with a 4" backsplash giving the countertop a little more integrity.
The added beauty and protection with a tile backsplash is an unmatched upgrade to your kitchen. Tile back splashes also offer added value to your home along with peace in mind that you will get longevity out of your kitchen.
The kitchen is the heart of the home and in many cases is the number one seller when purchasing a home. The kitchen is the one area that brings family closer together everyday and on special occasions. When you have company you will most likely be entertaining your guests in the vicinity of the kitchen. Unlike the other rooms in your house, you can't just close the door and hide your kitchen if it is in need of a desperate remodel. Nothing can be more embarrassing than entertaining with a dilapidated kitchen.
On the real estate side, kitchens are what will sell your home. A new kitchen remodel instantly adds value to your home and will make you more money in the long run when you decide to sell. First appearances mean everything when selling your home. Imagine the impact a new kitchen remodel will do for your home!
A kitchen remodel isn't only for selling your home. With the added value you instantly gain with a new kitchen remodel, you might as well enjoy it. Like I said before, the kitchen is the heart of your home and should be your main focus.
Kitchen design ideas are endless! We can move cabinets around, open walls, add lighting, many different floor options, and the list goes on! With 3-D imaging, you will be able to view your kitchen to scale what it will look like before any work is performed. There is nothing more exciting than creating a complete kitchen transformation.
In this photo we removed the wall and added a oak top. Completely transformed the entire kitchen with a open floor plan bringing all the rooms together.
What you gain by a kitchen remodel:
Instant added value to your home
Updated electric and plumbing
Less embarrassment when you have guests
Save money on gas and electric bills with newer energy efficient appliances.
I meet with customers almost every week that request a quote on renovating their kitchen. Many are surprised by the quote they receive because kitchens can run a good penny. Cost of cabinets, countertops, flooring, lighting, etc. can easily run you way up in the thousands. That is not to scare you away from your dream kitchen, but your dream kitchen is not too far away if your original cabinets are in good condition. Simply a new countertop, sink and faucet, tile backsplash, floor, and you are in a brand new kitchen for a fraction of the cost of a new kitchen. What is better than saving money?
Here is a kitchen we applied a WMB Construction upgrade to a kitchen over 30 years old. Plus check out our blog on creative kitchen ideas where we create an open floor plan for your kitchen.
Key factors to reviving your old kitchen:
As long as your cabinets are in good condition, you will save thousands.
Very short renovation time for you and your contractor to produce a final product.
Quick upgrade if you are looking to sell your home. Kitchens are the biggest sellers for a home.
Create a new atmosphere in your kitchen and have enough money left to take that cruise you have always dreamed of!! lol
Bi-levels and split level ranches are a very popular homes that took on a very economical floor plan that transfered rising heat from the lower floors to the upstairs. The layout was such a great design that they could be seen all over the country. The only problem was that the walls were always very confining leaving it not to be unique to more modern homes. The kitchens of Bi-levels/split levels leave you closely distant from the kitchen to the living room and dining room.
We find that most Bi-level kitchens are:
Closed off from the rest of the rooms in your home
Have poor cross air ventilation when windows are opened
Have less natural light flow
Is harder for heat/air conditioning air flow to maintain a steady temperature
THIS IS ONE GREAT WAY TO OPEN UP YOUR BI-LEVEL/SPLIT LEVEL
These photos were taken from a recent remodel where we removed half the wall, constructed a oak countertop and added lights. You can easily see without a before picture what a difference an open floor plan makes. We also added a quick upgrade to the kitchen with new handles, countertop, sink/faucet, floor and tile backsplash. It is obviously the most dramatic renovation you can perform to your kitchen/dining room to create an open enviroment for your home.
Benefits to an open kitchen floor plan:
Creates an instant modern look to your home.
Cross ventilation when windows are open.
A full view of your beautiful kitchen.
Added value to your home. Open floor plans sell.
Added entertaining area. More seating plus easier communicating with all of your guests.
Ability to supervise your children while in the kitchen.
Heat and/or air conditioning temperatures are more consistent and stable with an open floor plan.
Watch your favorite television shows from kitchen while preparing meals.
The kitchen area is probably where you spend the most time cooking and entertaining. Right? It is the focal point of your entire home. So with this in mind, why not make this your priority to ensure your guests or just your family will be impressed with a beautiful kitchen design.
When you plan to remodel your kitchen you want to work with a professional company that can design you the kitchen of your dreams. A good company will supply you with kitchen design ideas to enhance the beauty of your new kitchen. Before the start of your kitchen you should be supplied with a 3-D image of the kitchens appearance before any work has been performed. With the 3-D images you can visualize walls removed, cabinets in different areas, different crown mouldings, islands, etc.
